These sailing races are organized by the well-known Royal Ocean Racing Club. You can join any of them; it's not necessary to participate in all. These offshore races span several days, mostly over weekends, so participation will involve both daytime and nighttime sailing.

Myth of Malham Race
The Myth of Malham is a non-stop race takes place over a course of approximately 230 nautical miles, starting from Cowes on the Isle of Wight, to the Eddystone Lighthouse, located off the coast of Plymouth, and back to finish near the Needles lighthouse on the Isle of Wight.

Start of the race is on Saturday May 4th

De Guingand Bowl around the marks race
The race will head out from the Royal Yacht Squadron line, taking in headlands along the south coast and rounding marks and waypoints in the central English Channel, before returning to the Solent to finish. Complex tides add to the challenge for the skippers and crews with the course being set to take account of the expected wind and tidal conditions. A course of 110-160nm will be set close to the start with a target time of approximately 24 hours.

Salcombe Gin Morgan Cup
The upcoming Morgan Cup race will conclude in the picturesque Dartmouth harbor. To offer a fresh course and avoid replicating the 'Myth of Malham,' virtual waypoints may be introduced, adding variety and new tactical obstacles. The race is about 110 - 150 nautical miles long, starting outside Cowes on the Isle of Wight to the harbour of Dartmouth.

Cowes-Dinard-St Malo Race
Over 100 years old, this is one of the oldest races in the RORC calendar with its origins in a pre-World War I race from Cowes to St Malo bay. The winner still receives the original trophy - the magnificent King Edward VII Cup, which dates from 1906. The race history makes this one of the most popular races in the calendar and a must-do race for all competitors. The race course of approximately 150 nm, but you will do double the sea miles as you will also cruise back across the channel.

Lewmar Cherbourg Race (with JOG)
The Cowes to Cherbourg Race marks a fantastic end-of-season event, combining lively socializing with thrilling competition. Beginning Friday evening and sailing directly to Cherbourg, the conditions typically permit ample socializing ashore for all crews before cruising back north overnight. Typically, boats return to the Solent by Sunday morning or early afternoon. The race course of approximately 100 nm, but you will do double the sea miles as you will also cruise back across the channel.

When you book onto this race you are fully committing yourself, you are not a passenger on this boat. We really feel strongly that this is your boat to race and we facilitate that in every way we can. There will be only 5 people in the crew, and the result of this race will depend on each crew member!

Meals ashore and travel expenses to and from ports are not included.
PLEASE NOTE: As a long-distance race, the crew will be operating a watch system. This normally means that a crew is split up and alternates being on / off watch. Often it's 4hr shifts with shorter shifts from 16.00-18.00 and 18.00-20.00 to ensure that you are not always on watch at the same time of day/night. Offshore yacht racing can be difficult, and every crew member must fully acknowledge their physical condition and experience and take responsibility for all their actions on the boat.
