Most of you will have sailed the Solent by day, hopping from the Hamble to Yarmouth or Portsmouth to Cowes, sunglasses on, taking in the sights as you go.
But how many have sailed it at night with nothing but the navigation lights to guide you? The Solent and English Channel feel totally different under the night sky. So pack your torch and join us for a weekend cruise with a difference.
We will meet up on Friday evening at Royal Clarence Marina, have a safety briefing and then head out for a night sail to Cherbourg in France. Saturday morning after arrival we will start with breakfast on board and a chat about the night before and the plans and passage for the following night. This is great practice for aspiring day and coastal skippers, and a different insight into sailing for competent crew.
Your Skipper will be an experienced offshore sailor. Although not an instructor he will be very happy to share his knowledge and love of sailing. You can get as involved in the sailing as much as you like, and everyone helps with cooking and clearing up.
We will return to Royal Clarence Marina at around 7.00am on Sunday. The yacht will be Beneteau First 40 (40 feet) and comfortable for 6-8 people.

Safety briefing and preparation of the boat for the trip
We will meet on Friday afternoon on board the boat and the skipper will walk you through the layout and safety equipment on board. Once everyone has settled in, we'll finalize our plans for the weekend to suit wind, tides and as far as possible the guest preferences.

Sailing to France, Cherbourg
Sailing from Royal Clarence Marina to Cherbourg marina in France. This is approximately 70 nautical miles and 10-12 hours of sailing. The crew is divided into two teams and the night crossing is going by 3 hours watches. One team of the crew is sleeping, the other team is on the deck. Night navigation training. The skipper will get you involved in handling the sails, helming, keeping watch and navigation.

WHAT INCLUDE IN SAILING EXPERIENCE TRIP PRICE?
There are two options of Sailing Experience trip booking:
- Professional Skipper
- A place in a double shared cabin on a 40 feet Coded Yacht, Beneteau First 40.
- Accommodation Aboard
- Food & Drink Aboard (excludes any meals taken ashore)
- Fuel
- Gas
- Safety Equipment
There are two options of Sailing Experience trip booking:
- You book and pay only for your own place in the crew. In this case, we can find the rest of the crew members. Usually there are 4-6 people on the boat, plus our skipper.
- You can book the full boat for the day sailing and only your people plus skipper are on the boat. We do not take anyone else on this trip. The maximum crew are 7 people and our skipper.
